Large, impasto, riverfront cityscape executed in a naïve style and autumnal shades by German-American artist Christine Barth. Barth's standing practice was to sign pieces as "C. Kavon,"—using her first initial and the ananym of her maiden name, Novak. Oil on canvas. The frame shows separation at the mitered corners and light staining to the linen liner.

CHRISTINE BARTH (1920–1992) emigrated to the US with a toddler son in her early thirties in 1954, having survived the Allied bombing of Hamburg during WWII in which much of her family was lost. A preference for the palette knife had emerged during studies at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HFBK). She maintained a studio at her new home in eastern Pennsylvania and frequently sold work through NYC galleries.
