This exuberant floral still life by listed California artist Leslie Sherman is newly framed in dark mahogany with a beveled liner.  Red and orange blooms are offset by saturated blue and green.  The influence of Pop Art is betrayed by the optimistic hues and the naïve forms.

LESLIE SHERMAN was a noted Beat Generation painter active in San Francisco in the mid-20th century.  Prior to moving to the Bay Area in the late 1920s, he was a student at the Chouinard Art Institute in North Hollywood.  Sherman exhibited in a wide variety of venues in Los Angeles and San Francisco, including the legendary underground King Ubu Gallery in the early 1950s (later to be operated as the Six Gallery, the 1955 site of Allen Ginsberg's first public reading of "Howl").
