DYNAMIC OIL ON MASONITE SIGNED “MATHESON” (1950s)
CONTACT US HERE ABOUT THIS ITEM.
A dark and intriguing exploration of rhythm and movement that presents a dystopian, subzero vision of an imagined Times Square. Deconstructed elements imply architectural, industrial—and even commercial aspects, with some bordering on representational form. Robust, masculine swirls of periwinkle and a creamy white envelop the tumult, while unlikely touches of olive and pink add subtle highlights. Executed in oil on Masonite, probably in the 1950s. The artist’s signature is prominent but unclear. Nicely displayed in a newly crafted frame, embellished with nailhead trim and a beveled liner.
