CONTACT US HERE ABOUT THIS ITEM.
A lively, impressionistic street scene in oil on canvas by Portuguese artist AUGUSTO GOMES MARTINS (1922-1994)—with a view along the Rua de Palma and the rear facade of the historic Church of St. Dominic (Igreja de São Domingos) as a backdrop. Notorious site of a bloody anti-Semitic massacre in 1506, the church’s nave also served as the holding pen for victims of the Inquisition awaiting execution later that century.
