PASTORAL SCENE WITH OXCARTS AND RAFTS BY UNKNOWN BATIK ARTIST
CONTACT US HERE ABOUT THIS ITEM.
An expansive framed batik panel by a talented unknown artist, designed to mimic the look of pyrography, the process of producing designs on wood or leather by burning or scorching with hot instruments. The folk-art scene features a rustic pastoral setting, with farming figures, covered oxcarts, and subtropical foliage. Wagons in convoy trundle downhill while three bargemen punt their rafts upstream in an adjacent canal. Recalling the fluid, Regionalist style of WPA painter and muralist Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975).
