A compact, vertical abstract by an unknown artist in ecclesiastical tones. We speculate that this may have been a study in oil for a large, architectural panel of stained glass—vitrail, in French—the sort that might have been admired in certain American Protestant circles in the mid-’70s. Hard black ridges of paint, applied with a knife or a stiff card, mimic the caming—the grooved lead rods that hold the panes of glass together. The signature is ambiguous.
