ANGELO LELLI 'TRIENNALE' FLOOR LAMP FOR ARREDOLUCE

A superlative example of Angelo Lelli's acclaimed 'Triennale' floor lamp for ARREDOLUCE from 1947, with tri-color shades in white, gray, and black and a nickel-plated three-point base. The lamp has been completely rewired and the upright and counterweights re-clad in black leather. Each shade has its own on/off switch; an inline foot switch governs all three in concert. The major mechanical components are in their original, "as found" condition. No attempt has been made to overly clean the lamp or remove its natural patina. A museum piece, frankly!
ANGELO LELLI was an influential designer in post-war Italy, most notably in the field of modern lighting. He began making lamps in 1943 in his home in Monza, a city just northeast of Milan. In 1947 he founded ARREDOLUCE to manufacture furniture and lighting and that same year, at the VIII Triennale di Milano exposition, introduced his model no. 12128 floor lamp—it soon became known as the 'Triennale.' Lelli's other celebrated designs include the 'Tris' lamp (1946), the Eye floor lamp (1950), the 'Stella' chandelier (1950), the 'Cobra' table lamp (1964), and the President table lamp (1970).
ARREDOLUCE products are beloved for the unadorned sensitivity that their extremely simple designs manifest. The company was founded in 1947 by designer Angelo Lelli in the town of Monza in the Lombardy region of Italy, about 19 km northeast of Milan. An important proponent of early modern Italian lighting design, ARREDOLUCE collaborated with a number of esteemed Italian architects and designers, among them Franco Albini, Achille and Pier Castiglio, Vico Magistretti, Gio Ponti, Ettore Sottsass, and Nanda Vigo. It was one of the first manufacturers to experiment with the use of halogen bulbs.
