Produced in the early aughts by emerging Beijing-based artist MINGLEI WANG (from whom it was directly acquired), the focus of this predominantly abstract oil on canvas is a black clay pipe on the seat of a white wooden chair. The work showcases quick, expressive brushwork, a dramatic, fauvist color scheme—incorporating striking hues of magenta, canary yellow, and cyan—and an off-kilter perspective. It currently remains unframed.
