A beautifully understated 18-piece studio pottery tea service in the Bauhaus style by master West German ceramicist Elisabeth Grosser.

ELISABETH GROSSER studied the techniques of handmade pottery from 1929 to 1932 at the Giessen Trade and Mechanical Engineering School in central Germany.  She passed her master craftsman exam in 1955, and moved with her family the following year to Bad Zwischenahn in Lower Saxony, where she established a studio and workshop.  She trained a total of 15 apprentices in the following decades.  Grosser was one of the founding members of the Kunsthandwerk Oldenburg working group.  She once described herself not as an artist, but as a master craftsman, and considered her occupation to be a vocation.  Admirers of her pottery love their timeless, self-contained forms—shaped by the Bauhaus ideal—and the wide variety of glazes.
