MAREI KERAMIK 'CAPRI' JUG VASE 4302
CONTACT US HERE about this item.
A squat, jug-form vase from MAREI KERAMIK in the very popular 'Capri' décor, its colors inspired by the island's famed Blue Grotto. This specimen displays tinges of seafoam. The dramatic mid-section with its swirling mix of volcanic and fat-lava elements is sandwiched between a smooth, high-gloss décolletage above and a pumice-like skirt in matte black below.
MAREI was founded by Jean Fuss in 1948 when he and Josef Emons dissolved a longtime partnership, the latter establishing ES Keramik (Emons & Söhn) concurrently. At one time MAREI—a shortening of Majolikafabrik Rheinbech Jean Fuss & Söhn—was thought to be a fairly small company whose production peaked in the 1950’s. Better research has revealed that it was a major manufacturer and did some of its best work in later decades. Well-known designer Bodo Mans was employed by MAREI in its earliest years. Their iconic designs include the Penguin Vase and the Chimney Vase series. MAREI ceased production in 2016.
