This rare and eccentric double trumpet style vase from ROTH KERAMIK features an asymmetrical form covered in a flowing glaze of brown, tan, and goldenrod. It was very likely designed by Dorothea Roth in the early 1970's and exhibits many of the earmarks of studio pottery.
ROTH KERAMIK was founded in the very early 1970's by Edmund and Dorothea Roth in Ebernhahn, Germany. ROTH was a very small company compared to other big names in West German art pottery manufacture, and it only employed about 20 people in its heyday. Total output was tiny measured against that of giants like SCHERUICH or CARSTENS. A fraction of their work appears to have been more akin to studio pottery than to their more commonly available form-molded pieces, its production involving significant hand work. Today the company produces rather utilitarian tableware.
