A gorgeous studio pottery bottle-vase with a speckled, high-gloss, dove gray and white glaze from the BÜCKING-BÖRNSEN workshop in Cuxhaven, Germany. Incised on its base with maker's mark and production year, 1977.
BÜCKING-BÖRNSEN was established in 1948 by artists Erika Bücking (1916–1984) and Solveg Börnsen (1925–2021) in Cuxhaven, Germany, a seaside resort town in Lower Saxony, situated at the mouth of the Elbe on the shore of the North Sea. Both women had received earlier training in ceramic production from Gustav Grimm (1897–1987) at his workshop in nearby Hamburg.
Bücking and Börnsen participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad throughout their careers. Their output included large-format works for government and commercial organizations. Many of their pieces are held today in both private and public collections. BÜCKING-BÖRNSEN ceased operations in 1997.
Serenity also means leaving something...leaving something out. – SOLVEG BÖRNSEN
